Forensic expert says third wife of suburban cop was murdered

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) The family of former Bolingbrook Police Sergeant Drew Peterson's third wife say a nationally known pathologist has examined her exhumed remains at their request and has determined that her death was a homicide, according to a published report. The former chief medical examiner of New York City chief medical examiner examined Kathleen Savio's remains yesterday Friday and determined that she died after a struggle and her body was then placed in the bathtub where she was later found.

Friday's autopsy by Dr. Michael Baden was private and for the benefit of Savio's relatives, who requested his services. He's doing it pro bono.

Earlier this week, Baden said that the absence of drugs or alcohol and the lack of any history of seizures or heart disease made it unlikely that she would drown in the tub.
