Nicole Goyette hasn’t seen her boyfriend in a month.
And the Downers Grove woman says she just knows something’s not right.
Lisle police are investigating the disappearance of the man, Scott Arcaro, who was last seen a month ago.
Arcaro, 37, was residing in a townhouse in the 2700 block of Weeping Willow Drive near Benedictine University.
Police today said they don’t suspect foul play and are treating it like any missing-person case.
Goyette isn’t so sure. It’s not like him to just disappear without telling anyone, she said.
Arcaro, who did maintenance work for an apartment complex, was last seen Feb. 23.
Goyette had been out of town with her daughters at a water park. She said she received a text message from him around 3 p.m. Feb. 22 containing a smiley face and an “I love you†message.
The pair usually talked at least five times a day, she said, and had plans to see each other that weekend. She hasn’t heard from him since.
She said she was checking out of a hotel on a Friday morning when Arcaro’s boss and friend called asking if she’d seen him.
A missing person report was filed. Since then, Goyette has just been waiting for news.
Police told her it’s possible Arcaro took off on his own, but she said she knows his patterns.
The pair have known each other since attending high school in Downers Grove and dated for four years, she said.
Arcaro was like a father to her two daughters, she said, and they had talked about getting engaged. But she wanted to graduate from the College of DuPage’s nursing program and be able to support herself first.
“It’s been an absolute nightmare,†Goyette said today. “I can’t hold my food down. I’m just a wreck. I’m scared.â€
Unable to concentrate since his disappearance, she has dropped out of the nursing program.
She has been trying to track down Arcaro’s sister, she said. Both of his parents have passed away. She’s been in regular contact with the police and plans to put up fliers.
If Arcaro was leading any kind of double life, it’s news to her, she said. “Maybe he trusted the wrong people,†she said. “Or maybe I’m the fool.â€
While neighbors say they last spotted Arcaro near a truck, that vehicle was investigated and has since been returned to its owner, Lisle Sgt. Ron Wilke said today.
Police still are looking into cell phone records, he said. There have been no arrests, but authorities will continue to investigate new leads, he said.
Neighbors are concerned, too. They describe Arcaro as a hard worker who was outgoing and friendly and never hesitated to help fix something.
In the past year, he had to put down his dog, Buddy, who had diabetes. That was hard for the animal-lover, friends say.
“I cannot imagine what could have happened,†neighbor Bernice Krippner said. “There’s a lot of people who are concerned about him.â€
Anyone with information about the case should call Lisle police at (630) 271-4200 and ask for investigations.
